REMINDER – NEW Recommended Masking Measures

The Kateri Memorial Hospital Centre Public Health Department and the Public Safety Commission wish to remind the community of newly-updated Recommended Masking Measures for those who have been partially or fully vaccinated.

These new recommendations are meant as a guide, but it is up to the individual and his/her accepted level of risk. Those who are in vulnerable population, 70+ and/or immunocompromised, and those who are not vaccinated are always at a higher risk of serious illness due to COVID-19.

Important:

  • Masking measures are still mandatory in all public indoor spaces
  • Masking measures are still mandatory for all local businesses and public buildings, in common spaces (exception in meeting rooms or offices where spaced at a 2-meter distance between participants)
  • Masking measures are mandatory when in public/community owned vehicles when occupied by two or more individuals
  • Be aware that masking measures for Kahnawà:ke may differ from that of Quebec.

When you are fully vaccinated (in a private setting or outdoor public setting):

  • No mask or physical distancing required when outdoors with a small group
  • No mask or physical distancing required when outdoors with people from multiple households
  • No mask required when indoors with a small group of fully vaccinated individuals
  • Follow measures put in place by the owner or organizer of indoor gatherings of multiple households. Keep windows and doors open if possible and consider wearing a mask if you are part of the vulnerable population.
  • It is recommended to wear a mask and follow all measures at indoor or outdoor gatherings where people may closely gather

When you are partially or not vaccinated (in a private setting or outdoor public setting):

  • No mask or physical distancing required when outdoors with a small group, depending on your accepted level of risk
  • It is recommended wearing a mask if physical distancing cannot be maintained, especially if you or others are part of the vulnerable population, when outdoors with people from multiple households who are unvaccinated, partially vaccinated or vaccination status is unknown
  • It is recommended to wear a mask in indoor environments. Being physically close to fully vaccinated individuals is acceptable only if everyone is comfortable with that and nobody is part of the vulnerable population when indoors with a small group of fully vaccinated individuals
  • Wear a mask, maintain social distancing whenever possible, follow all measures put in place by the owner or organizer of the indoor or outdoor gatherings where people are closely gathering. Keep windows and doors open if possible, to reduce the risk of transmission of COVID-19 (Note: Consider only attending events where there are safety plans in place that follow local public health advice.)

The Public Safety Commission and Public Health want to emphasize that although we are in a GREEN level alert, this does not mean the pandemic is over. We must remain vigilant and follow public health measures as a means to prevent any outbreaks and keep us on the right path forward.

Vaccinations for community members 12-15 years-of-age begin TODAY (Thursday, June 3rd)

For immediate release

(Kahnawake – 3, Ohiarí:ha/June 2021) The Kateri Memorial Hospital Centre (“KMHC”) and the Kahnawà:ke COVID-19 Task Force (“Task Force”) would like to remind Kahnawa’kehró:non that vaccinations for adolescents between the ages of 12 and 15 begin TODAY.

This vaccination clinic will be held at the Vaccination Center located at the Mohawk Bingo on Route 138 on:

  • Thursday, June 3 from 3pm until 6:30pm
  • Friday, June 4 from 1pm until 6:30pm
  • Saturday, June 5 from 9am until 3pm

It is not too late to book your appointment. Although Thursday is full, there are still spots available on Friday and Saturday to book appointments. Please visit www.kahnawake911.com/vaccine and click on the link to Quebec’s Clic Santé portal. Those aged 14 and over do not require parental consent to receive the vaccine. Those under the age of 14 require parental consent to receive the vaccine. The parental consent form can be found at the aforementioned website when booking your appointment.

“This is another crucial phase in the vaccination campaign but more importantly in ensuring that our community remains safe as we move forward towards a new normal. Vaccinations protect our most vulnerable and will contribute greatly to return to school in the fall in a safe and secure way,” said Executive Director of the KMHC Lisa Westaway earlier this week. “Our children deserve to be learning on-site. Vaccinations will ensure that they can be back in school, meeting their mental health, physical, social and psychological needs, while at the same time, protecting their families and loved ones.”

Additionally, local residents who may require more information or have questions about the vaccines and adolescents can contact a nurse from Public Health at 450-638-3930 ext. 2213. Other vaccine-related information is available on various government websites to help you make an informed decision regarding vaccinations:

KMHC Public Service Announcement – COVID-19 Vaccination Prioritization

Public Service Announcement

Tsothohrhkó:wa/January 7, 2020

COVID-19 Vaccination Prioritization

The Kateri Memorial Hospital Centre (KMHC) is extremely happy to kick-off the vaccination campaign for our community.  We wish to inform all that currently, vaccinations are being distributed according to the Quebec Vaccination Priority List which can be accessed through this link.  At the present time, we are in the process of completing Priorities 1 and 2.  As vaccines become available, we will move down the priority list.

Here is an estimate of what you might expect regarding when you will be vaccinated (percentages and completion rates are based on those people who have consented to receive the vaccine):

Priority 1: Residents of long-term care facilities, Intermediate Resources, and Family Type resources

  • KMHC inpatient: COMPLETE
  • Turtle Bay Elder’s Lodge: COMPLETE
  • ILC: week of January 11th
  • With extra vaccine doses provided in error yesterday, 11 paramedics were also vaccinated on January 6th.

Priority 2: Employees of the Health and Social Service network

  • KMHC inpatient, Turtle Bay Elder’s Lodge and Independent Living Center employees: 90% complete
  • Other front-line employees of KMHC and KSCS: in progress and expected completion week of February 1st (based on present knowledge of the availability of vaccine)

Priority 3: private long-term residences: not applicable to Kahnawake

Priority 4: remote First Nation communities

  • At this time, it is unclear if Quebec will recognize ALL First Nation communities as a priority status, although a recent agreement between Indigenous Services Canada and the Ministry of Health and Social Services appears to move in that direction.  Our goal is to have vaccinated our whole community by the end of March.

Both KMHC and the COVID-19 Task Force are aware of the many vulnerable members of our community who should be prioritized.  In fact, we believe that the WHOLE COMMUNITY deserves to have quick, easy access to the COVID-19 vaccine.  We continue to fight to make this happen but until it does, we are subject to the Quebec vaccination schedule.

We will continue to provide you with up-to-date information.

To stay up-to-date with the latest information, please visit www.covid-19.kmhc.ca

KMHC thanks the community for its patience and understanding.
